NEW MARKET, Md.-- An investigation is underway into what caused a deadly fire in New Market, Maryland.

Firefighters found two bodies inside a partially collapsed townhouse shortly after midnight.

Emergency personnel were called to the Lake Linganore Community around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.

David Hood, a neighbor who lives several blocks away, said he heard loud crackling sounds and saw the orange glow in the sky. He came to look and called the scene simply "devastating."

Another neighbor said he routinely saw the couple fighting and once watched another person separate them.

Another says he heard a loud explosion and "saw flames blow the back door off."

Two little girls who live in the house were at a relative's home. Their parents are missing. The sheriff's department says, "it is believed they died in the fire, but that will not be confirmed until the autopsy report late today."
