AUSTIN, Texas -- In the moments during a South Austin house fire on Wednesday, an Austin firefighter can be heard urgently calling for help.

On the audio recording of radio transmissions from the scene, the words "Mayday! Mayday!" are repeated.

The firefighter was rescued through a hole near the roof. He was later treated and released from a local hospital for burns to the back of his head and ears.

The blaze broke out in an unoccupied home in the 500 block of Strawberry Cove near South First Street and William Cannon on Wednesday morning.

Investigators later said the cause was accidental, apparently sparked by an electrical problem.
