BYRON, N.Y. -- Four people died in a fire in Genesee County early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. at 6969 Town Line Road in the town of Byron. The house held four apartments, and residents of all but the middle apartment made it out safely.

Authorities have now confirmed that a total of four people died; three women and one man. Other residents told R News that one adult, two college students and a teenager, who was a student at Byron-Bergen High School, lived in the middle apartment, which was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Families of the victims are still being notified, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
