Five Children Die in Arkansas Fire

BENTONVILLE, Ark. --

Five children died in a Bentonville house fire early Tuesday morning. The children ranged in age from 7 to 13 years old. The blaze started a little after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in a house on Southwest B Street.

The parents of the children woke up to the sounds of the smoke detector and were able to get out of the house, but could not make it upstairs to save the children due to overwhelming heat and smoke, officials said.

The fire is believed to be an accident, but is still under investigation, police said.

The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of next of kin, officials said.

Officials will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday, and 4029tv.com will carry that press conference live on the web. It will also be broadcast on television on 40/29.
