Firehouse Magazine Contributing Editor Robert W. Cobb has joined the ISO as its RDS Director of Community Hazard Mitigation.

The ISO reviews and rates the firefighting capabilities of individual communities.

Cobb will officially retire from the Jersey City, N.J. Fire Department on Dec. 1. He has served as deputy chief of department operations and the deputy coordinator of the office of emergency management/homeland security.

"Chief Cobb brings with him 37 years of subject-matter expertise, with numerous examples of design and implementation of innovative ideas within his department," Michael R. Waters, ISO's Vice President of Risk Decision Services, said in a statement.

"In addition to his considerable background in fire suppression, he was also responsible for the city's emergency all-hazard planning process, which will be further valuable experience."

Cobb will be responsible for policy-level decisions regarding ISO's public fire protection information gathering and analysis process that includes the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule, according to a press release from the organization.

He also will serve as the ISO's lead spokesperson to the nation's fire service.

"The ISO is looking to get even more involved in the fire service than they already are," Cobb said. "The biggest thing is spreading the word to the fire service about what the ISO is and what they have to offer."
