PURSLEY, W.Va. --

Investigators still have not determined the cause of a Tuesday morning fire that killed two young children and left two adults hospitalized.

It happened in the rural community of Pursely, near the town of Sistersville.

The home, located on Route 18, caught fire at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Tom Butterfield lives just down the road. He and the other neighbors spent most of Tuesday waiting for information on the condition of the people who lived in the home.

"We were hoping that everybody was gone (from the house)," said Butterfield. "We soon discovered that some folks were outside and the babies were inside. It was real hurtful."

Firefighters told NEWS9 there are no signs of suspicious activity.

The two adult victims were taken to a Charleston hospital for treatment.

The state medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy on the two children who died.
