Walker Valley Chemical Engine Co. No. 1 - Ulster County Company #63 proudly protects approx. 2500 people living in an area of approx. 25 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The fire company was organized in 1915. The name of the company derived from their first piece of fire equipment, a wheeled soda and acid extinguisher. It was pulled to the scene and inverted to cause a chemical reaction to provide pressure to pump the 50 gallons of water. The Walker Valley fire district is located in the Town of Shawangunk, approximately 85 miles north of New York City.
