We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is owned by the Wallington Engine Co. , and is contracted with the town of Sodus for fire protection . All members are on a volunteer status. The Wallington Fire Department was organized in 1915 and Incorporated April, 1962. The first fire station consisted of one bay with Spencer Duncan and George Mason doing most of the building. Wallington's first engine was a model T Ford hand pumper and chemical truck (soda/acid) and was put into service in the late 1920's. In 1936 the Wallington Fire Department purchased their first new pumper, a Ford chassis with a flat head V-8 and had it equiped in Webster, N.Y. by the Rochester Fire Equipment Company. The Wallington Fire Department still has the 1936 and we proudly display it in local parades. Wallington is one of 7 fire companies that make up the 3rd Battalion in Wayne County, New York. The Wallington Fire District is in the Town of Sodus, Wayne County. Sodus is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and is 35 mile east of Rochester, New York.--------------------- POINTS OF INTEREST-------- Our two engines , and tanker have Hale pumps, and are all set up for drafting, we carry, 5250 gallons of water on first response. We also have 24 foot and 35 foot ladders on our engines.we have some medics in our department as well. Our F.A.S.T TEAM was the first area department to have members trained in these operations.( N.Y.STATE CERTIFIED) 11 members of our department took this class . We can supply our surrounding departments with a team 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We have an additional 10-15 members that are S.C.B.A. certified. Our Department has over 55 active members in it , and we are fortunate enough to have man power day or night . We are also used as a landing zone for the eastern fire , and E.M.S. agencies . Mercy Flight , and a new servide provider names S.T.A.T is also available When Mercy Flight is either out of service on another call or not being able to fly do to weather conditions . We have many other small tools portable pumps, hurst tools , thermal camera and stuff of that nature at our disposal as well. These are just some of the many tools we use at the Wallington Engine Co.
