We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our dept is a public dept. whose members are on a volunteer status. We have an ISO rating of 9. In the little rural community of Sawyer Ok, a group of residents saw the need for a fire dept. to service their community. In November 1993, a group of 10 Volunteers had their first meeting, and thus the birth of the Sawyer Vol.Fire Dept. In December 1993, a group of community members gathered and formed a Board of Directors to help support the firefighters in the efforts. The board consisted of five elected officers, thus the growth began. Also the Fire dept only had one vechicle The Gamma Goat, and a five gallon bucket. In January 1994, they acquired their command vechicle, a 1984 Dodge 3/4 ton, and their first Water pump. In May 1994, the 1978 1 1/2 ton Ford 1,000 gallon tanker was born. In July 1994, the board presented the Fire Dept with their first Standard of Operations, better known as the SOP of firefighters. In January 1995, construction of the Fire House began, with its completeion in March 1995. In April 1995, the fire dept purchased radio communication equipment and their set of complete Protective Bunker Gear for the firefighters. In December 1995, the first set of SCBA gear was purchased. In July 1996, the first pumper truck was built from proceeds of a Corvette Raffle, and the remainder of the Bunker Gear was purchased, thus all firefighters were now protected when fighting fire. In December 1996, the Fire dept was given their first ISO rating of 9, and the Dept purchased The American Le France 1000 gpm pumper truck. There is approx 20 active firefighters truly dedicated to serving their community to the best of their ability. May 2000, the Fire Dept added on two more bays making it a total of 5 bays for our trucks. We have 2 First Responders and 1 EMT-I and we have 3 state certified fire service instructors. We have a total of 6 fire trucks and we are 75 gallons less capacity of a city supported Fire Dept.
