We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. South Barren Volunteer Fire Dept was founded in 1984. At that time, we had one station, 1 tanker, 1 brush/field unit and 12 volunteer firemen. During that year, 25 runs were made.Today we have two stations, 3 pumpers, two 1500 gallon tankers, 1 mini-pumper, 1 brush/field unit and 25 volunteer firemen. The Dept. makes around 250 runs a year and has around 850 paid members that pay fire dues.The South Barren Fire district covers the following communities in Barren County= RED CROSS**BECKTON**RAILTON**MERRY OAKS**BON AYR**BERRY STORE**FINNEY**ROCKY HILL**OIL CITY.
