In Memory of Firefighter Ralph Arabie.
**********On September 29, 2008, Firefighter Ralph Arabie, age 48 was killed while completing an inspection of hurricane damage to the roof of the fire station located at 1136 Lafayette Street with one of the department's aerial fire apparatus.
**************Firefighter Arabie served the David Crockett Fire Company for 30 years as a paid pump operator and was a Fire Prevention Supervisor for the Gretna Fire Board and also a Gretna Police Officer.
**************Ralph was instrumental in setting up and conducting fire prevention classes especially for school children and the elderly.
**************He was awarded a Medal of Valor from Fire Chief Bobby Black for outstanding service given to the City of Gretna during Hurricane Katrina. Ralph also remained to help protect the community during the recent Hurricane Gustav.
**********A full "Firefighter's Funeral" was conducted on October 2, 2008 with numerous Fire & Police Departments and first responders participating in the services.
*****Sincere thanks to all those departments and individuals who participated and helped coordinate the services for Ralph who certainly deserved to be truly honored for his service to his fellow firefighters and to the community.
*****Ralph will be sadly missed by all who knew him, worked with him, and by those who were touched by his innovative and informative fire prevention classes.
