About Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department:
Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 2500 people living in an area of 55 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

Information of the Department before 1948 is very sketchy, but we do know that in 1896 a Volunteer Association was formed, a set of By-Laws drawn up and a Hose Cart was purchased. (which we still have today) In 1949 the Village of Mt.Blanchard purchased its first Firetruck, a Chevrolet truck with a Ward-LaFrance Pump and a 500-gallon tank. In 1952 a Chevrolet truck and a 1500-gallon was purchased to be used as a supply tanker. Then in 1954 the firemen raised money for the construction of a new FireHouse. In 1967 the Volunteer Department could no longer meet its operating expenses providing fire protection to the Village of Mt.Blanchard and Amanda, Delaware and Jackson Townships. At this time the Delaware Township Trustees took over the equipment, the Mt.Blanchard Town Council accepted the FireHouse and agreed to house the Equipment as it is today. In 1970 the Delaware Township Trustees purchased a new pumper, a Cab-Over Ford with a Howe pump and a 1000- gallon tank, shortly after in 1974 they bought a Ford truck with a 1800- gallon tank for use as a Tanker. In 1994 the department upgraded trucks again, with a 1993 Freightliner Pumper with a 1000-gallon tank and a 1989 Mack truck with a 1800-gallon tank as a Tanker. We currently have 2 Pumpers, a 1800-gallon Tanker, a 4x4 Grass Truck (Mini Pumper) and an Equipment Van.
