About Bontio Fire Department:
The Bonito Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 6000 people living in an area of 95 square miles. We operate out of three stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Bonito Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1960 to serve a large area immediately north of Ruidoso, NM. The membership consists of approximately 25 volunteers, most of whom are cross-trained in structure, wildland and rescue operations. Currently, we range in age from 23 to 60.
