CHARLOTTE, N.C. --

Fire destroyed several homes in an east Charlotte apartment complex early Wednesday.

The two-alarm fire at the Ashley Place Apartments on Idlewild Road near Independence Boulevard began shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at about noon, but they were unable to save a few of the units.

They said some families will be displaced, but no one was hurt.
