ARLINGTON, Texas --

The state of Texas has taken custody of a newborn baby left at a fire station in Arlington early Thursday.

The firefighters at Station No. 11 found the baby on the front porch just after 6 a.m. when they heard the child crying.

The child, who was found to be in good health, was wrapped up inside a laundry basket. Firefighters said there was no note left behind or even a knock at the door.

The infant was then transferred to a local hospital where the child was examined and turned over state officials.

Under the Baby Moses law, officials will not try to locate or prosecute the person who left the infant.
