An Arizona corrections officer working with an inmate firefighting crew died while fighting a blaze near Lake Havasu City.

Douglas Falconer, 46, was on the fire line Wednesday when he collapsed, according to Arizona Corrections officials.

Inmates and officers immediately initiated CPR in an attempt to revive Falconer, reports indicate. However, their efforts were not successful.

The crew was helping to contain the Sacramento fire near the California border.

Arizona flags will be lowered to half mast on the day of his funeral which has not been set.
