McKEES ROCKS, Pa. --

A fire on Broadway Avenue in McKees Rocks forced a family to escape to their roof early Thursday morning.

The fire was reported a little after 2 a.m. and arriving firefighters found the family on the roof.

McKees Rocks Fire Chief Nick Radoycis said, "four of them were trapped on the roof of the second floor. When we arrived, we were able to get a ladder on the rear roof and get all four of them out of the building."

No injuries were reported, but Chief Radoycis said there was substantial damage to the house.

The chief said it appears that the fire started in the kitchen.
