WINCHESTER, Conn. --

William Clarke, 25, of Lakeville, was arrested Tuesday morning on a warrant. Clarke is accused of throwing a chunk of asphalt through the window of an apartment at 101 Whiting St. in Winsted early oo Aug. 3, knocking over a candle and igniting a blaze that caused more than $10,000 worth of damage.

Police charged Clarke with first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment and breach of peace, police said.

The fire investigation quickly turned into a drug investigation when police found more than one pound of marijuana, police said. On Aug. 3, police arrested Brendan Fetzer, 29, a resident of the apartment.

Clarke was and released on a $5,000 bond and is due back in court Sept. 8.
