LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP --

A school bus carrying 17 students had just left Lawrence North High School when it caught fire Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire began in the engine compartment of the bus and spread to the interior of the vehicle, forcing the students and the driver to evacuate, said Lawrence Township Fire Department spokesman Dick Grove.

When firefighters arrived around 3:15 p.m., they said flames were coming out of the windows of the bus.

No one was injured. Another bus was called in to take the students home.
