Fire Rips Through Chesterfield, Virginia Home

Tones were a jolt at 0335 hours on July 1. The call was for a possible structure fire at 5700 South Jessup road.

A county police officer arrived on scene and reported the house fully involved.

Responding were Co 11, Medic 11, Engine 11, Truck 3, Engine 2, Engine 15, TSO and Battalion 1.

Arriving crews discovered the home was engulfed in flames and the neighboring home had caught fire.

Due to the intensity of the fire and two dwellings involved, a special call was issued and responding resources included: Engine 3, Engine 9, Truck 9, Medic 15 and Air Utility.

Five inch quick connect was laid, multiple hand lines stretched.

The engulfed home was a new building under construction and unoccupied but the neighboring home had occupants. Firefighters first began an immediate fire attack on the occupied home and residents were evacuated to a safe location. A second attack was launched on the engulfed home.

An intense fire attack effort made quick work of both fires. The occupied dwelling sustained some damage on an attached garage. The new home that was being constructed was a total loss. All other neighborhood homes and muliple vehicles in the subdivision were protected.

Engine 14 provided fill in coverage for Station 11 and Engine 20 provided fill in coverage for Station 9.

Fire Marshal 7 is investigating the cause.
