Pipe Bomb Left at Washington Firefighter's Home

MONROE, Wash. --

Police blew up a pipe bomb that was left at a firefighter's home in Monroe on Sunday, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

The firefighter arrived home Sunday night to find the bomb hanging on the front door of his house in the Frylands neighborhood near 154th and 171st. The device had wires dangling from it and looked suspicious, so he called 911, police said.

Neighbors left their homes while a police robot moved to device and then detonated it on the man's property, leaving a hole where it exploded.

"I heard 'Fire in the hole,' and then I just started running toward my porch, and it went off," said Randi Lauren, a neighbor.

Police said there are no suspects, and they are investigating.

Neighbors said the Redmond firefighter who's lived in the home for about 11 years is quiet and keeps to himself.

Dale Severude stood next to the homeowner after the bomb was discovered.

"He was a pretty cool customer. He's a fireman. He seemed to be pretty businesslike about it," said Severude.

No one was hurt.
