AUBURN, N.H. --

A volunteer firefighter in Candia has been charged with setting fire to logging equipment.

Police said Christopher Millspaugh, 21, caused more than $100,000 worth of damage by setting fire to two pieces of logging equipment on May 14. Prosecutors gave no motive but said that he admitted to setting the fires.

Police said that when they arrived at the fire on Flintlock Road, they were met by Millspaugh, who said that he was in his house when he saw an orange glow in the woods. Investigators said he later admitted to setting the fires using road flares and a rag.

Prosecutor Jacki Docko said Millspaugh's actions put the lives of others in danger.

"The extent of the damage caused by these fires and the risk that the fire department and other personnel were placed in is a cause for serious concern," Docko said.

Bail was set at $5,000, but court officials said it could be converted to personal recognizance if Millspaugh is accepted into a supervision program. He was scheduled to appear in court again on June 4.
