CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. --

A woman and her baby were hospitalized Monday night after their Coral Springs apartment caught fire.

The fire started shortly before 8 p.m. inside the Grand Oasis apartment complex on Riverside Drive.

Neighbors said the fire spread quickly through the one-story apartment.

Firefighters rescued the woman and her infant son from the apartment, which was fully engulfed in flames. She was originally transported to North Broward Medical Center while he was transported to Coral Springs Medical Center. They were later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Several dogs were also inside the apartment, but they did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
