QUEENS -- About two dozen people are being evaluated for minor injuries following a Long Island Rail Road train derailment at Jamaica Station in Queens.

Eyewitness News is told the rear two cars of a Hempstead-bound train derailed and hit the last two cars of a Huntington-bound train shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The cause of the derailment is not known.

The trains involved were the 935 from Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn to Hempstead and the 934 from Penn Station to Huntington.

The LIRR says there were about 150 people on each train, about two dozen or so in the two derailed cars.

LIRR officials tell Eyewitness News the Huntington train was already in the station and the Hempstead train was just pulling in when the derailment occurred.

Right now, the LIRR is reporting 30 to 45 minute delays eastbound through Jamaica.

There are no reports of service disruptions westbound toward Penn Station.
